A DAY TO FORGET FOR OGCC 2'S

It was a day to forget for Old Glossop as a weakened Old Glossop 2nd X1 never got to grips with a Tinsle side who, though professing to be short, with Damian Weatherhead and Dave Thornhill on board were certainly stronger than the cup side the West Drive outfit had turned out in the last playable fixture a fortnight ago.

Tinsle won the toss and on a damp wicket put OG in to bat. OG got off to a good start with makeshift opening pair Dan Shaw (29) and Jon Wright (12) starting like a steam train with the first 5 overs going for 26 without loss. Doodson, who had been a real thorn in the OG side in the cup match, was being played with relative ease by the OG openers. One particular back foot cover drive by Shaw, certainly showing how far he has come as a batter in the last three years.

At 28 though Wright was caught behind for twelve, this brought Mikey Parker to the crease and after a nervy opening Mikey began to show the type of form that had seen him decimate Dinting two weeks ago. Shaw, after just hitting one back over his head for 4, tried it once more and played on. At 66-2 with 28 overs to go though OG still looked like setting a decent target, however Tinsle swapped the pace of the attack to military medium and OG began to struggle. Mikey Parker launched Dodd for a huge six before receiving a dubious LBW decision.

Martyn ‘Wolf’ Parker was joined by the returning Chris Traynor who, due to 7 years rustiness didn't bother troubling the scorers. Wolf and Tory Wright really struggled against the slower bowling and the pair lived up to previous nicknames of Boycott and Tavare as in 12 painful overs they added just 7 runs. This really put the skids on OG setting a total, both Parker and Wright fell within a short space of time and cursed the conditions.

Matt Parker (2) was caught behind early and skipper Mitchell (0), caught brilliantly one handed in the slips by Thornhill off Dodd. Twist was then bowled by Thornhill and Old Glossop looked  with 7 overs to go at 98 that they wouldn't even get a batting point. However Tom Wright (10*) and Nolan (3*) (playing for the conspicuously absent Sagar) managed to get Old Glossop up to 113 without losing another wicket, showing Boyks and Tavs the way to do it.

The second half of the game was even more forgettable for Old Glossop, it started well when Mitchell and Twist were chosen to open because of the impact that Tinsle’s slower bowlers had made. Tinsle were only 7 off six overs with a six the only scoring shot, but after the Tinsle opener was inexplicably dropped by Tom Wright with the score on 10, he went on to make 39 before one of Mitchells better balls swung away and took out his off stump. Weatherhead came to the crease and in a breezy 30-40 smashed the bowling to all parts to win the game for Tinsle and leave OG with a solitary point to show for their efforts.
