"Old Glossop Seconds in second derby win of the weekend"

Old Glossop 2nd X1 continued where they left off on Saturday with another derby win, this time against Tintwistle in the Hawke Cup on Sunday.

Tinsle won the  toss and elected to bat, and Old Glossop led by Keith Mitchell in Cannon's continued absence due to injury, started well again. It is no secret that they have lifted their game in their skipper’s absence!

Mitchell and his able deputy Matt Parker had decided, due to perfect strategy which continued throughout, to open the bowling with Twist and James Wright. They both started the match with very tight spells and Twist (1-18) had the Tinsle opener brilliantly caught at slip by Matt Parker for the first wicket, and a tight spell from both bowlers continued. Matt Parker replaced Wright and found form instantly with an opening spell of 1-5 off 4 overs which included bowling Tinsle's other opening batsman.

Gerrard was then thrown the cherry for his first bowl for the club and after a nervy start produced fine figures of 3-19 off his allotted 8 overs. The highlight off this spell was a wonder catch by 12 year old Tom Nolan to get rid of Gorman at fine leg. Nolan had appeared to have mis-judged a skier, before diving full length and to the delight of his team mates came up clutching the ball. One fact obvious to everyone inside the West Drive arena was that young Tommy doesn't get his fielding skills from his Dad !

Mitchell then came on and was his usual economic self (0-18). Parker was then brought back and was instantly successful getting rid of the dangerous Dodd who was plumb LBW for not many. Parker (3-13) off 8 and Wright (2-13) off 5 wrapped up the innings for what appeared to be a meagre total of 100.

In reply Old Glossop, through a combination of bad luck and excellent bowling, got off to a shocker with the returning Martyn (aka Airwolf) Parker adjudged LBW for 0 early on. He was closely followed by nephew Mikey who went for a suicidal second run and was brilliantly run out by an arrow like throw from Gorman.

Doodson pulled out a beauty to get rid of Gerrard (0) and when Matt Parker came to the crease at 10-3 OG looked in trouble. Parker and Wright struggled against the lively Doodson and were both dropped before Tinsle's captain inexplicably gave O.G. hope by taking off both opening bowlers. This allowed Parker (12) and Wright to chase down the Tinsle total. Parker departed with the score on 55 which bought Redmond to the crease and with a breezy knock of 17 knocked the stuffing out of Tinsle.

Doodson returned, but after a break was not as effective, and the Wright brothers, James and Jon, brought Old Glossop nearer the required total. With the scores level on 100 a debatable decision led to Jon Wright (56) being given out LBW, but OG were nearly home now and a typical leg slide paddle from James Wight saw them home.

After a fine double winning weekend for the 2nd's, team selection should be interesting next week.
