Big T and Rhinohead 8 Tinsle for Breakfast

Old Glossop again won making it a miraculous 8 wins on the spin against local rivals Tinsle. All the talk in "Tinsletown" this week was off first teamers being dropped to the second team to avoid the 2nds at Tinsle slipping down to the pipe and slippers fourth division, yet despite this the OG 2ndX1 juggernaut continued merrily on its way. Old Glossop won the toss and elected to field again, with revenge for the poor performance at West Drive earlier in the season prominent in Mitchell and his sides thoughts. Twist managed to persuade Mitchell(how we don’t know, maybe free beer) to have the pick of ends again, (what made this more unusual was that Twist chose the Pyegrove end, somewhere he never bowls from, maybe something to do with slope on top wicket?) Cooper drew the short straw and had to bowl with the slope, as a result of this Twist knew that he had to perform. Twist bowled a tight first over and was unlucky when the ball ran through the slips for four, Cooper then soon settled into a groove. Twist produced a gem to get rid of  the Tinsle opener, with a ball that pitched leg and middle and hit off. Robinson came to the crease earlier than expected and he too struggled to get the ball away, Cooper managed to find the edge a couple of times but low bounce ensured that the ball didn’t carry to Lawton.

Robinson started to time the ball better and it wasn’t long before he was showing the first team form for which he is known, Lilley at the other end was struggling to get into form so this kept the brakes on Tinsle. Twist removed Lilley with a debatable lbw for a pain-staking (6).Robinson was beginning to rip into Cooper, before Copper had his revenge trapping Robinson in front for a well made (37). Cooper (1-26) was taken out of the attack and replaced by Matt Parker who due to his nagging foot injury would only come off 8 paces so adjusted to the problematic end instantly. The mood at the ground was quite hostile with constant jibes from the departed Tinsle batters, in a desperate act to influence the umpires(something they did well in 2nd half) was answered back by the Manor Park Rd men. Twist and Parker bowled miserly restricting Tinsle in the middle overs to 15 runs in 10 overs, Twist carried on taking wickets at will and accounted for Dodd and the dangerous Tinsle Junior Kelvin Davies.D.Thornhill came in and saw partners come and go before deciding it was down to him to cut loose and after two fours on the trot off Parker, was caught (Collingwood-esque) by Jammy low down, his second superb catch in a week. Parker then took the leg stump of Thornhill junior out and Traynor caught a skier at mid off  to leave Tinsle in a perilous position. Twist (5-34) was replaced by returning Superman Tory (this decision was down to the fact that Tinsle had two young boys at the crease and Mitchell refused to bowl after last weeks abuse for bowling hostile at the Mottram juniors?), Tory(1-3) and Parker(3-17) wrapped up the Tinsle innings for 96. The last wicket to fall was Lilley jnr who edged Tory to Twist at slip, who with a mirror image of last weeks puppy fat catch in his gut, the ironic thing about this catch was Tory was heard seconds earlier saying to CT " What's that Dick doing at second slip?".

OG knew due to history that Tinsle would be appealing for everything, to try and claw themselves back into the game, Tory and S.James opened the innings and  Thornhill asked cack hander Tory after his earlier Tavare like knock at West Dive "if he fancied having a go at being a right hander today" Tory played into Thornies hand by chipping a poor shot tamely to mid off (a shot that could earn him DOD). Gerrard came in at 3 and hit a couple of nice back foot shots before being lbw for (9). Airwolf strode to the wicket with Old Glossop at 30-2, with James looking in ominous form, two cuts hit for four off Robinson, to keep the dangerous Tinsle openers spell a brief one.The aging umpires were showing signs of weakening under the constant pressure from the Tinsle fielders and finally buckled when the now set James was unbelievably given out lbw to left arm over Thornhill for a soundly made (30) Big T Parker came to the crease with 41 overs left and after playing his first ball down heard the jibes from fellow players relating to his gay link to the PSB "all day all day", this sparked Big T off as he crashed A.Thornhill into the Sagars skylight next ball. Big T looked in thunderous form as he then hit D Thornhill for an even bigger six into the field at Pyegrove. Wolf was barricaded with abuse about not being able to "get it off square" but retorted smartly with "I have no need to, when Big T is hitting you to all parts" Wolf then cut loose with a couple of fine fours before to being given out LBW. Traynor looked plum lbw first ball, but was amazingly given not out despite not offering a shot, but in true fashion though, he too was given out lbw for (0).Mitchell(4) was another debatable decision adjudged run out, when looked to have made his ground. OG were now at 90-5, Lawton joined Big T and watched in amazement as Big T (43*) hit his 5th six to win the game for OG and claim his first MOM award this season. Old Glossop were left rueing some appalling umpiring decisions for both sides that hopefully doesn't  cost them more than two points?.
