Old Glossop hit Dizzy heights at Whaley!

OG continued their impressive recent form in the picturesque elevated surrounds of Whaley Bridge, after hearing many a story about Whaley's bowler friendly new track, Mitchell won the toss and elected to bowl.

The returning Matt Parker was chosen to open the bowling ahead of the unlucky Tory Wright who had proved an able deputy in Parker's absence. Tory soon repaid Parker for pinching his slot, dropping a dolly which should have gotten rid of wooley off Parker's very first ball, a trend which Tory's is mastering in recent weeks, apart from off his own bowling of course?. Parker soon saved Tory's blushes by bowling DCCL legend Wooley cheaply. When the Whaley no 3 came to the crease the ball was moving around but Twist and Parker felt secure that their slip cordon of Big T and Inzi (Johnny) would do them proud if a chance came their way after hours of practice on Tuesday night, this proved to be a false dawn as the Whaley no 3 nicked his second ball off Parker to the (never reliable Big T) at the perfect height only for Big T to drop it.

Inzi proved that at least practice worked for him by snapping a catch up later in the Whaley innings. The slips saved the best till later though performing a synchronized Whale dive from a tame delivery that Mitchell bowled that was at the boundary by the time they hit the floor. Matt Parker's luck was about to get harder when the usually sound Mikey dropped an absolute dolly which should have accounted for the other Whaley opener, but he showed he is learning the Parker excuses despite his tender years when quickly  claiming "it was spinning wildy".Parker was soon replaced by the inform Mitchell who ripped through the WB middle order with a quick fire five wickets which left him with figures of (6-28) Twist kept going admirably at the other end and finally got his reward, when trapping the WB no 6 LBW. Mikey was given a chance to replace Twist and bowled very quick and hostile, finishing somewhat unfortunately with (0-19) Matt Parker(2-44) was bought back and both himself and Tory picked up a late wicket to end the Whaley innings on 140. Anthony was street's ahead in the race for DOD for the two incidents above and doing his own impression of Alan Sugar conducting his business while on the pitch via his mobile phone, but just like football, cricket is a funny old game and by the end of the day Anthony would be relieved of the DOD.

The talk at tea was positive, but it was noted that if they had any quicks, then 140 might take some getting on this track. The inform opening partnership of Allcock and Johnny Wright started like they were in a hurry before Allcock played one to many cover drives and was caught out. The out of form Mikey Parker came to the crease and from ball one looked in ominous form as he built what was to be a match winning innings, he was particulary harsh on the usually dependable Wooley, hitting 20 off one over, with OG rapidly approaching their target the rain came and at times looked like it was threatening the outcome, but knowing this Parker laid on and after reaching a richly deserved 50 he holed out. Wright kept going at the other end but due to some livelier bowling from the WB returning opening bowlers and a zippier wicket due to the rain, the runs dried up. Big t was sent in to get on with it and was soon welcomed when a bouncer hit him in the head.(he should have borrowed Twisty's helmet), he was soon out and replaced by Wolf who hit his first ball majestically through cover for 4. With the total on 137 Wolf got a lifter that he "took the skin off"

and was given out caught behind, cursing at the opposing players and umpire that the ball caught his shirt sleeve. With live ball by ball commentary being transmitted back to OG it appeared that things were getting tense, a matter not helped when the excellent Wright was bowled for 41. Dan Shaw was next in and the roar said it all as he managed to nick it through slips for 4 to win the game and give OG another 21points. All the team were elated apart from Airwolf who marched out to confront the opposition captain and give him his opinion, he also issued a verbal barrage to his team-mates who were trying to calm him down, this act appears to have snatched the DOD award from cousin Anthony at the last moment, and after all as Wooley commented afterwards "weren't out, check in book lad". It was also mentioned in the Shepherds after were hoards of people waited for concrete proof of the wolf incident, which incidentally the snickometer proved conclusively was out, what a good team and team spirit Old Glossop 2ndX1 has.

Wooley also recalled the days when walking wicket Twist batted for 15 overs?, to stop Whaley getting all points, only to be bowled very last ball by Charlie Holden, some things never change.
